About the Synesso ES.1 Dual Boiler Espresso Machine

The Synesso ES.1 brings Synesso's pressure control and temperature stability to the home, mobile coffee carts and light commercial bars. It is a compact dual boiler machine that runs on a standard 120 V outlet, works from its own reservoir or a water line, and is built in Seattle in four Synesso colors.

Key Features

  • Patent-pending valve matrix measures temperature, flow and pressure 10 times per second
  • Pressure profile manually through 3 stages with the paddle, or run saved volumetric recipes from the touchscreen
  • Pressure and flow graphs, shot history and editable recipes
  • Dual boiler: brew and steam at the same time without losing temperature
  • 3 L front-fill reservoir, or plumb it in with the optional plumb and drain kits
  • Volumetric tea tap with saved temperature profiles from 165 to 205 F
  • Classic Synesso cool-touch steam wands and a simplified auto-backflush routine

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 18 in wide x 22 in deep x 18 in high; 80 lb
  • Brew boiler: 0.5 L (600 W); steam boiler: 3.25 L (600 W)
  • Power: 100-120 V, single phase, 14.8 A, 1200 W, NEMA 5-15 plug

Questions about the Synesso ES.1 Dual Boiler Espresso Machine8

Can the ES.1 run on a standard 120 V outlet?

Yes. The US ES.1 runs on 100-120 V, single phase, and draws up to 14.8 A from a NEMA 5-15 plug, with no dedicated circuit required. Synesso's valve matrix avoids the power spikes usually needed to keep a dual boiler machine at temperature.

Does the ES.1 need a water line?

No. The ES.1 has a 3 L front-fill reservoir and a 1.75 L drip tray, so it works without plumbing. It can also be plumbed in with a plumb kit, and a drain kit is available for semi-permanent draining. For mobile use the ES.1 creates its own line pressure from a water container.

What water quality does the ES.1 require?

Synesso's ES.1 water standards are:

  • Total dissolved solids: 30-200 ppm
  • Total hardness: 50-85 ppm (3-5 grains)
  • pH: 6.5-8
  • Chloride: 5-15 ppm
  • Total alkalinity: below 100 ppm
  • Chlorine and iron: 0 ppm

Water that does not meet these standards voids the warranty.

How does pressure profiling work on the ES.1?

Extract manually through 3 stages of pressure with the paddle, or run a saved recipe from the touchscreen. The ES.1 shows pressure and flow graphs for each shot, keeps a shot history, and lets you save and edit recipes. The volumetric tea tap stores its own temperature profiles between 165 and 205 F.

What comes with the ES.1?

The ES.1 ships with its water reservoir and an accessory package: Synesso tamper, milk pitcher, bottomless portafilter, double spout portafilter, 2 baskets, blind basket, brew head cleaning tool, brew head cleaning detergent and a Synesso USB drive.

What warranty comes with a Synesso espresso machine?

Synesso commercial machines (MVP Hydra and S-Series) carry Synesso's limited 2 Year Plus warranty. Selected components, such as the machine body, frame, heating elements, wire harness and flow meters, are covered by a limited 5 year warranty, and Synesso's patented group head activation switches carry a lifetime warranty.

The ES.1 has its own limited warranty of 13 months from the date of shipment. All warranties require proper water treatment and are void without it.

Do Synesso machines need water treatment?

Yes. Synesso requires water treatment to keep the full machine warranty. Synesso does not prescribe one filter brand, because water quality varies by region; have your water tested by a water treatment specialist and choose a system that meets the water standards in the owner's manual.

Where are Synesso machines made?

Synesso machines are designed, engineered and hand-built to order in Seattle, Washington, where the company has built espresso machines since 2004. Synesso is part of Middleby Coffee.
