Questions about the Nuova Simonelli Appia Life Compact 2 Group Volumetric with Autosteam 220V Espresso Machine6

What is the difference between the Appia Life Compact Semi-Automatic, Volumetric and Volumetric with Autosteam versions?
  • Semi-Automatic (220V only): you start and stop each shot manually.
  • Volumetric (110V or 220V): programmable doses for each group, controlled by a volumetric flow meter.
  • Volumetric with Autosteam (110V or 220V): everything in the Volumetric, plus an automatic steam wand that uses a temperature probe, alongside the manual wand.

The Compact is the narrower 2 group Appia Life (22 in wide). The 110V and 220V machines are separate listings because they need different electrical supplies. The 2 Group XT with full display is a separate model and is not part of this listing.

What electrical supply does the Appia Life Compact need?
  • 110V machines: 110 V (range 110-125 V), 1500 W, 13 A, NEMA 5-15 receptacle.
  • 220V machines: 220 V (range 208-240 V), 3000 W, 14 A, NEMA 6-20 receptacle.

Per the US distributor's installation requirements, the outlet should be within 3 ft of the machine. Have a licensed electrician confirm the circuit and receptacle before installation.

Does the Appia Life Compact need a water line and drain?

Yes. The Appia Life Compact is a plumbed machine, so both a water connection and a drain are required. The distributor's installation requirements call for:

  • A dedicated 3/8 in cold water line with shut-off valve and compression fitting.
  • Line pressure of 2-4 bar and a minimum flow rate of 1 GPM.
  • Water hardness of 3 gpg (50 ppm); filtration of 1.0 micron or finer; TDS 50-250 ppm; alkalinity 10-150 ppm; chlorine 0.50 ppm or less; pH 6.5-8.5.
  • An open gravity drain of at least 1.25 in inner diameter, within 4 ft of the machine.

A water softener is mandatory if your water does not meet the required specifications, otherwise the warranty is void, and a water filter is recommended.

How big is the Appia Life Compact?
  • 22 in wide x 22 in deep x 21 in high.
  • 7.5 L single insulated stainless-steel heat-exchanger boiler.

Plan the counter space and drain hole location with the distributor's installation sheet for your voltage, which is included in the product documents.

What warranty comes with Nuova Simonelli espresso machines?

Nuova Simonelli espresso machines carry a 2-year manufacturer warranty, according to the US distributor. If a part is defective, the claim is made with the Defective Part Warranty Claim Form, which is available in the documents section of this page.

Does my Nuova Simonelli machine need a water softener or filter?

A water softener is mandatory whenever the incoming water does not meet the water specifications Nuova Simonelli requires. Running a machine on water outside those specs voids the warranty. A water filter is also recommended to protect the machine and keep your coffee tasting consistent.
