The system includes the RSCF 195 Softening Cartridge (NUOVART006, 4,350 grains) and the VH3 filter head with 3/8 in NPT connections (NUOVART005). The filter head is not included when the cartridge is bought on its own.

The valve-in-head design shuts off and vents the water with a quarter turn, so the cartridge can be swapped without shutting off the water line. The cartridge is sanitary in design, so there is no contact with the filter media, and it needs no activation.

Maximum operating pressure is 125 psi (862 kPa), maximum operating temperature is 100°F (37.8°C), and the service flow rate is 0.5 gpm (1.9 lpm).

A water softener is mandatory whenever the incoming water does not meet the water specifications Nuova Simonelli requires. Running a machine on water outside those specs voids the warranty. A water filter is also recommended to protect the machine and keep your coffee tasting consistent.
